Diabetes Mellitus is a disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to insufficient insulin secretion,
less potent insulin action or both. Dandang gendis leaves (Clinacanthus nutans) and genjer
leaves (Limnocharis Flava (L) Buchenau) are known to contain alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids and
antioxidants that can lower blood glucose levels. This study aims to determine the
antihyperglycemic activity of the combination of dandang gendis and genjer leaves in male mice
induced by streptozotocin.
This research is a laboratory experimental research. The animals used were 30 male mice
divided into 6 groups, each group consisting of 5 mice. Group 1 normal control, group 2 negative
control CMC Na 0.5%, group 3 positive control Metformin 65 mg/KgBW, group 4,5,6 were given
dandang gendis leaf extract at a dose of 20 mg/KgBW, 40mg/KgBW, 80 mg/ KgBW and genjer
leaf at a dose of 16.25 mg/KgBW, 32.5 mg/KgBW, 65 mg/KgBW. Before treatment, the test
animals were induced with Streptozotocin 45 mg/KgBW and Nicotinamide 110 mg/KgBW except
for the normal group. The blood glucose level data obtained were analyzed statistically Anova
One Way to determine whether there was a difference in the data if there was a difference
followed by a Post Hoct Test to determine the difference.
The results of this study indicate that administration of dandang gendis leaf extract in all
can reduce blood glucose levels comparable to Metformin.
