Lipstick is a cosmetic product that is mainly used for women. Lipstick is a mixture of wax,
oil and pigment in various concentrations to produce a product. Some lipsticks have been found
to contain toxic substances such as the heavy metal lead. Lead (Pb) is a dangerous heavy
metal, lead can attack kidney function, reproductive system, hemopoytic system, nervous
system and is carcinogenic in high doses. The purpose of this study was to determine the lead
content in several lipsticks sold in the Boja market.
The method used in this research is to use UV-Vis spectrophotometry, the sampling is
done by simple random sampling.
Based on the research reults, from 9 samples obtained 7 samples containing lead metal
and the lead content was 1,7 ppm; 1,9 ppm; 2,06 ppm; 2,4 ppm; 2,2 ppm; 2,3 ppm and 0,1 ppm.
This level is still declared safe, because it is still below the threshold allowed by BPOM RI,
wwhich is not more than 20 ppm.
