Slimming herbal medicine is one of the traditional medicines in Indonesia
which has properties for weight loss. Herb which is stated in Indonesia is
prohibited from containing medicinal chemicals (BKO). BKOs that may be added
in slimming herbs such as furosemide. The drug furosemide acts on the renal
glomerulus to inhibit the re-absorption of sodium by the renal tubular cells.
Furosemide can cause hypokalemia, leading to cardiac arrhythmic dysfunction
leading to sudden death. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out research to see
whether the standby packaging wise in Semarang City contains furosemide or
not.
The analytical methods used to identify furosemide in packaged slimming
herbs are the color reaction method for qualitative analysis and the instrument
method using UV-Vis spectrophotometry by comparing 2 solvents for quantitative
analysis. The number of samples studied was 7 herbs slimming packs with
different brands obtained from the city of Semarang. The sampling technique is
random sampling.
