Papaya leaves are plants that can live in the tropics and are no stranger to
Indonesian people. Dementia is a memory dysfunction that occurs slowly, so it can
interfere with the performance and activities of daily life. This study aims to
determine the effect of giving Papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L.) on memory
and to determine the effective dose of the extract in improving memory of Wistar
strain mice (Rattus norvegicus).
This study used the Y labyrinth method. Consisting of 25 wistar rats divided
into 5 groups, normal control K1 group, K2 positive control group Ginkgo Biloba
6.75 mg/kg BW, group P with the administration of Depaya leaf extract with a dose
of P1 125 mg/kg BW. , P2 250 mg / kg, P3 500 mg/kg BW. Each group was tested
with Y maze for 3 days, then a memory test was carried out. Furthermore, groups
K3, P1, P2, P3 were given treatment for 10 days and all groups were given 20%
ethanol, except K1. Then all groups were re-tested in labyrinth Y to see the effect
of Papaya leaf extract on the memory of mice based on latency time. To see the
effect of the extract on memory, a statistical analysis test was carried out using
One Way Anova and followed by Post Hoc Tuckey to see whether there was a
difference between the three dose variations.
The results of this study showed that after testing the memory using the Y
labyrinth method that the ethanol extract of 20% papaya leaves could be used to
improve the memory of rats. The best dose that can be used to improve memory
is at a dose of 125 mg/kg, then followed by a dose of 500 mg/kg and a dose of 250
mg/kg.
