Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by
hyperglycemia (increased blood sugar levels) caused by abnormalities in insulin
secretion, insulin action, or both. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) contain antioxidants that can prevent LDL oxidation, while black cumin seeds (Nigella
sativa) work to reduce blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study was to
determine the effect of the combination of Moringa leaves extract (Moringa
oleifera) and black cumin seeds (Nigella sativa) on total cholesterol and
triglyceride levels in the white rat model of type DM 2.
This study was laboratory experimental research. The tested animals
were divided into 6 groups @ 5 male wistar rats. Normal control was given CMC
Na 0.5%, negative control was given STZ 45mg/kgBB induction + NA
110mg/kgBB, positive control rat type DM 2+metformin 45mg/kgBB, P1 type rat
DM 2+EDKBJH 150/75mg/kgBB, P2 type rat DM 2+EDKBJH 100/150mg/kgBB,
P3 type rat DM 2+EDKBJH 50/225mg/kgBB. Data obtained in the form of total
cholesterol and triglyceride levels were statistically analyzed using One Way
Anova and followed by post-hoc test using the Bonferroni test to determine
significant differences between treatment groups.
The results showed that giving ethanol extract of Moringa leaves and
black cumin seeds (EDKBJH) at a dose of 150/75mg/kgBB,100/150mg/kgBB,
50/225mg/kgBb reduced total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rats induced
by streptozotocin and nicotinamide.
