Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a disease characterized by the presence of
bacteria that grow and multiply in the urinary tract in excess of normal numbers.
UTI treatment mostly uses antibiotics to prevent the infection from getting worse
and destroy microorganisms. Irrational use of antibiotics can lead to an increase in
side effects, antibiotic toxicity, waste of money, not achieving clinical benefits and
antibiotic resistance. This study aims to evaluate the use of antibiotics.
This study is an observational study with a retrospective data collection
method with descriptive analysis, using data obtained from outpatient medical
records of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital in 2020. The research data was
compared with Guildeline Infection & Chemotherapy and then evaluated
qualitatively using the Gyssens flow.
The results of the study of male characteristics were 31 (43.66%) while the
number of female patients was 40 (56.34%) and the age of the patient was mostly
in the elderly. The most widely prescribed antibiotic was ciprofloxacin 500 mg as
much as 24 (33.8%), From 71 cases of antibiotic prescription, 0 was assigned to
category VI (incomplete data), 0 category V (antibiotic prescribing without
indication), 13 categories IV A ( there is another choice of antibiotic that is more
effective), 0 category IV B (there are other safer antibiotics), 2 categories IV C
(there is a cheaper antibiotic option), 14 category III A (duration long), 0 category
III B ( duration too short), 14 categories II A (incorrect prescribing of the dose), 0
category II B (incorrect intervals), 0 category II C (incorrect route), and 28 (39.44%)
category I (use appropriate antibiotics)
