UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI SEDIAAN SABUN CUCI TANGAN EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN KEMANGI (Ocimum sanctum L.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus



The ethanol extract of basil leaves (Ocimum sanctum L) has antibacterial
activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Soap preparations are products
resulting from the reaction between fatty acids and strong bases which function to
wash and clean dirt. This study aims to determine what the best concentration of
ethanol extract of basil leaves can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus
bacteria.
Basil leaf extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol. The
extracts were tested for phytochemical screening and tested for confirmation by
the TLC method. The next stage is the formulation of hand soap with the
composition of Na Lauryl Sulfate, CMC Na, Methyl paraben, Sodium EDTA,
glycerin, sunset yellow, aquadest, basil leaf extract concentration 1.5 pm, 2 ppm
and 2.5 ppm, positive control used namely hand soap brand ''X'' and a negative
control hand soap base. Antibacterial testing with paper disc diffusion method.
The medium used was NA, the incubation temperature was 37oC for 1x24 hours.
The clear zone formed was measured and the data analyzed by Shapiro Wilk.
The results showed that the inhibition zones at concentrations of 1.5 ppm,
2 ppm and 2.5 ppm against Staphylococcus aureus were 8.17 mm; 11.49 ppm
and 15.62 ppm. Data analysis shows that the data is normally distributed and
homogeneous. One way ANOVA test showed significant differences between
various concentrations. Because the data obtained were significant, the test was
continued with a post hoc test with Tukey analysis.
