Hypertension is a disease that can affect anyone, young or old. Hypertension
is also often referred to as the silent killer because it is a deadly disease. Cost of
disease cost estimation (COI) is an important element in the decision-making
process, because it can evaluate the magnitude of the cost of a disease and can
describe diseases that require increased allocation of resources for disease
prevention or therapy. This study aims to determine the average cost of illness for
treating hypertension in outpatients at the NU Demak Islamic Hospital.
This research is a quantitative descriptive study using a pharmaccoeconomic
approach with the method of cost of illness according to a societal perspective.
Observations were made to retrieve secondary data in the form of medical record
data and medical expenses retrospectively at the NU Demak Islamic Hospital for the
period September-November 2020.
The results showed that the total cost incurred for hypertension in
outpatients at RSI NU Demak was Rp. 99,403,777, with the average cost of illness
for treating hypertension in outpatients at RSI NU Demak was Rp. 341,594.
