Currently, the use of environmentally friendly packaging has developed,
including packaging that is easily biodegradable (biodegradable film), which is
obtained from tubers, one of which is glucomannan.Tubers containing
glucomannan are porang tubers or yellow iles-iles (Amorphophallusoncophillus).
Compared to starch and other components, porang tubers contain 55% higher
content, so it will be more efficient to use porang tubers for the manufacture of
biodegradable plastics containing glucomannan.
This research is an experimental research.The extraction method of
porang tubers (Amorphophallus oncophyllus) was carried out using a multilevel
washing method using an ethanol solvent with a concentration of 50% and 80%
with modifications each with 4 washings, then making a biodegradable film from
glucomannan with the addition of 20% sorbitol plasticizer followed by
characteristic testing. glucomannan (organoleptic, moisture content, particle size,
and glucomannan content). With the addition of the plasticizer sorbitol), an edible
film was made from porang flour and then tested, swelling test, biodegradation
test, and FTIR test. And descriptive data analysis.
Thickness test results on glucomannan film with the addition of 20%
sorbitol concentration obtained an average thickness of 0.22mm. The resulting
swelling test for glucomannan films with the addition of 20% sorbitol
concentration obtained an average of 7.98%. For the results of biodegradation of
glucomannan with the addition of 20% sorbitol concentration, it was degraded for
11 days.
